  1. And here in Oz, grasses that should be tender green are already baking to brown in the early summer heat, because Spring forgot to hang around.

  2. They seem to be leaning ever so slightly downhill as they sing. I like that. It makes me think of the haunting refrain of Roethke’s “The Waking” :

    I wake to sleep, and take my waking slow.
    I feel my fate in what I cannot fear.
    I learn by going where I have to go.
