A wonderful piece of fungal irony – and I think it says a great deal about the status of modern art. Time was we would say of an installation that it was ‘like a bracket mushroom’ or something, but now we all understand what it means to compare a mushroom to a generic abstract installation. For me, this is more proof that what was once fresh and thought-provoking in the modern art world often (not always) appears tired – a predictable and stereotypable formal exercise. As you so rightly say, nature has been playing with form for millions upon millions of years.
As a forester I learned the ever changing music of nature and seemed to carry it back to the city. I have no rhyme or reason. the mushroom is just a fruiting body . what we see is nothing compared to what lies beneath
nice detail to focus on.

It’s rare for a fungus to get me to think, “Pristine and beautiful,” but this one does.
