  1. This surprised me by touching my heart so strongly. Usually I move past the worn flower to focus upon the “perfect” one – silly me.

  2. I grew up calling violas Johnny-jump-ups. I always associated them with spring, and then I moved to Houston. Here, pansies and violas are winter flowers, and the pansies often are used in urban landscaping because they can take the occasional cold snap — even a light freeze — so well.

    1. I grew up in California – so it has been wonderful to discover the first flowers of spring. I’m a big fan of the ‘spring ephemerals’ – those tiny wild flowers that are first up in the woods. I love pansies – but always think of them as ‘delicate’ but it sounds like they just look that way!
