A nest awaits
the feathered promise
of new beginnings.

Woven with beak and artistry
beauty weathers winter
to house the new life of spring.

Pod Gall

The gall of the flying guest
who leaves behind his bulbous nest
but goldenrod the gracious host
welcomes insects more than most.

Winter laid an egg of snow
for March to roost upon
we’ll count the days until the hatch
of finely feathered spring.

Snowed In

Fluff the nest and tuck your beak beneath your wing.
Winter has arrived. It is sitting on our perch, dear.
