all the benedictions of spring
are rivaled by
the transformations of decay
Boxcar and Branches
The train waits for its green light
as the trees’ buds await sufficient sunlight
Construction
building on the fly
Mrs Robin takes advantage
of abundant construction materials
Picket
in need of a patch of blue
the blue picket fence will do
Banishment
winter lingers
in the damp and grey
until banished by the sun
Seepage
long river
creeps over her banks
occupying low lying fields
Hunt
searching the old corn field
for grub be it bug or blade
Proof
that wide blue sky
a living proof
warmer days will not be denied
Late
geese arrive
later than usual
bewildered by the lack of spring
Despite April’s Snow
spring green
so verdant it vibrates
the color of life
Moving Meditation
like dervishes
branches twist and spin
seeking harmony between the seasons
Return
the sky clears to blue
birds are on the wing
dear, tender, true spring
Mourning Cloak
before the flowers flower
the butterfly blooms
Iris
iris the indomitable
sprouts beneath the snow
April Morn
her snow blanket removed
the naked earth awakens
renewed, refreshed and ripe
Hint of Spring
Winter lingers on the mountains
lichen greens the birch bark
the air hints of spring
Singing
robin arrives
singing spring’s song
Inspiration
amidst bare branches
last year’s crabapples
inspiration for spring blooms
Winter’s Shadow
shadows in the snow
soon to be transformed
by the grass and leaves that grow
Feathered Nest
tossed by the wind
the feathered nest
made of moss and hope
will be built again
Sunshine and Blue
immortal spring
emerges
from winter’s vestige
Spring’s Domicile
the newly bare ground
home to all possibilities
Demonstration
as snow recedes devoted pines
demonstrate being green
for leafless trees
In Lingering Ice
lonesome for the red winged
longing for the frogs’ calls
believing in the sun
cattails wait
Sugar House
first smoke plume of the season
the sap is on the boil
sweet sugar time
Rest
leaf buds rest
gathering strength
from sunshine and rising sap
Change
a heaven sent rain
the glorious mud
season change
Progress
even when still
time moves the wheel
Love and Beauty
Venus courts the morning moon
wooing spring from winter
Black in Blue
a crow waits
with the rest of us
for the dawning of green
