I agree with shoreacres about the background, but that also makes me think: these beautiful birds must live in “the country,” right? (Never seen one here in the suburbs) And do they nest near the ground? If not, it is curious to see this one flying so low. Or am I mis-seeing?
They like marshes especially and you often see them perched on a reed or cattail. They nest low often in the marsh amongst the reeds. This particular one was swooping away from the marsh and his cattail perch.

Great shot catching a red-winged in flight. I tried the other day and wasn’t so successful.
The mixture of old and new growth is the perfect background for this beauty.
