A quiet region where in the smaller towns people know their neighbors and everyone else in town. And where neighbors still help neighbors. Formerly a staff photographer I worked for a number of newspapers over the years. These days I like traveling the back roads and seeing what is over the next horizon and sharing those places and people I meet. More work can be seen at https://www.jerrylmennengaphotographer.com/

One could almost think of that band’s theme song for “The Monkey’s, “ Here they (it) come, walking down the street. Getting the funniest looks from, everyone (it) meets!” And run as fast as one can, there is no outrunning ‘Ol Man Winter.

  2. clcouch123 – In conversation, I prefer Christopher. My mom named me after Christopher Robin, after all. In writing, I use “C L Couch” (or, more simply, “c l couch”) because the form is genderless and also frankly easier to use. I have awful writer’s cramp. I am an educator more or less retired, more or less due to disability. At present, I live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (USA). My writing here I mean to be occasional and also devotional. Either or both. The banner and profile photographs are by my friend and peer Debra Danielson. More of Debbie’s work to be enjoyed is at debradanielson.org. Thanks to each of you and both and all for coming to my blog.

    a train loaded with cold

At first, I read a train loaded with coal, because we still have coal trains here (Pennsylvania). But cold is coming, too. We had snow a few days ago. Didn’t last. I hope any preparations for winter are going well for you, though I guess it’s coming, anyway. I enjoy the text. The photograph is impressive. Conveys a true sense of distance.

    1. Thanks so much CL. And I am glad to be able to place you, in my mind, in PA. And coal would be apt too – to manage the cold. Here in our river valley we have trains. And I love the plaintive sound of their whistles.

  3. judybarton – Still in love, complicated, almost stupid, interested to recognize herself. "Up to the age of eighteen years old everybody writes poems; after, only two categories of people may continue to do it: poets and idiots." (Benedetto Croce). Obviously I do not consider myself a poet.
