  1. Beautiful – I have a tree in my garden that looks just like this so I’m hoping its a magnolia – we arrived in late September and it’s only now as I wander round the bare leaf trees that I’m figuring out what they all are – some are easy like oaks, silver birches and sugar maples but this one I have fingers crossed for …

  2. Aggie – Southern Arizona, USA – Life is an excellent adventure! My husband, Lou, and I have built an off grid homestead, including rainwater collection, solar power, and passive solar earthbag tiny home. I do bookkeeping, and we also make and market BathyDerm, an herbal bath tincture that is good for the skin and fades age spots.

There were many magnolias along my running route in Houston, but I don’t remember that they ever lost their leaves. Pretty.

Have those recent snow photos been coming from Houston?

      2. Not yet. Last week it got to Bryan/College Station but there was very little and it didn’t stick. Some reported a few flurries here, but I didn’t see any. There’s a better chance tomorrow.

  3. janaline's world journey – I am addicted to travelling and have been exploring the world for nearly two decades. Here I share my travel stories and pictures so that you can share in some of the amazing experiences I have along the way. When you travel you experience the culture and get to know the people of a country. Once you step out of your comfortzone you get to know the real country and experience it in a different way than ordinary tourists. My camera usually accompanies me everywhere I go so you can "see" and read about my journeys.

Definitely gives the idea that spring is not far off…..

  5. Rene Yoshi – Just a transplanted Okinawan-French Southern girl with a wee bit o' Irish, sharing photography and what I'm learning about spiritual things, including putting off legalism and religious traditions, and embracing God's matchless love, tender mercy, and amazing grace!

    LOVE the backlighting!

  6. So beautiful with halos of light. At first glance I thought they were pussy willows and I thought, “How can you have them before me (you being more northern)?” I long to see them and the message of relief from winter that they bring. I’m getting tired of the cold!

Wonderful view of the beautiful magnolias.

  8. Thank you for this ray of light and hope.

  9. Melissa Shaw-Smith – I hope I will always be as endlessly curious about the natural worlds as the 7 year-old me in that goofy picture. Writing is a solitary business, this blog is my way of making it count.

Very lovely. Just what I needed to carry me through the next 2 months of winter. Thanks!

  10. I saw a few pussywillows today and little red buds on my dogwood shrubs. They make me feel hopeful and in awe of how much is going on during a seemingly lifeless winter.

  11. firefly1275 – Louisiana – V. Rose enjoys creating mystical characters and worlds, with a touch of the modern day world. When she is not writing or thinking up her next story ideas, she is enjoying South Louisiana sunset.

  12. Good capture of the light , not always easy to do.

  13. Dr. Denny Wilkins – Dr. Denny Wilkins professes journalism at a small, private university in the Northeast. He has climbed, hiked, kayaked, photographed, skied, and otherwise meandered aimlessly throughout the American West for decades. He has degrees in geology, environmental studies, and communication — and has tried to make use of them as a co-founder of the progressive cultural blog ScholarsandRogues.com. He’s broadly interested in how the world works and why it works that way. He hates writing, although he does like having written well.
    Dr. Denny says:

Well done. A difficult, backlit image.
