  1. Janet Holt – Bald Head Island, NC – I am on a journey of discovery. One that involves discovering the world around me and discovering myself. I have found that using a camera is making this process of discovery much more enjoyable. I trust you will enjoy it as well. My passion for all animals knows no bounds, but it is the parrot that has caught my heart! I am now involved in a campaign to help bring parrots in the wild back into their normal existence! The Indonesian Parrot Project is first on my list, and with a little help from our friends we will bring the Abotti Cockatoo back into a full, strong life in their natural habitat.

  4. heavenhappens – Welcome to my life. You can share my grown up world here at http://heavenhappens.me where I blog my thoughts, my life, my travels, my photographs and my poetry. Growing up just after the war was a grim experience. So, now that I have 7 grandchildren, I am reclaiming my childhood by seeing the world anew through their eyes. Every minute I spend with them is magical. So this blog is for them ~ Ben, Rosie, Tiffany, Stanley, Thea, Mateo, and the youngest, Olivia! I hope, when they are all grown up, they will enjoy reading it and finding out about their grandma’s life, and know how very happy they made her. I hope you enjoy reading my posts, leave a comment or a link and I will get back to you. I’m sorry to say that my darling husband died of Covid on Good Friday 2020. Since then the wind has gone out of my sails and I’ve hardly written a thing. I will try to pick up my life and start writing again one day. But for now please enjoy exploring my life🕊️

Gosh that is a lovely pic, I can almost smell the lilac. I used to have lilac trees but don’t now and I do miss them. Lovely haiku x

Walt Whitman wrote “When lilacs lat in the dooryard bloomed” about Lincoln’s assassination, which took place in mid-April. So our DC lilacs bloom earlier, but they are not nearly as beautiful as New England lilacs, nor as dearly appreciated when they finally arrive.

  7. shellyfaber – I have always considered my ʻhands-onʼ work, as a Massage Therapist/Body Worker, an art form. My stories, poetry, and thoughts, grow from experiences I learn from, and am privileged to be a part of, in my personal, and, professional life.

A very memorable way, to say good-bye to May. Thanks for this.

  8. It is the end of May?
Somehow I missed the whole month. 🙁
Lilacs are a sturdy plant. They always just bloomed with no care. We just expected them every year.

  9. eightdecades – Artist, Designer, Maker of Things. I have experiences living across eight decades of history. Illustrating and writing stories from this journey is what this blog is about. Like all artists, I have my own opinions of what is worthy of using the hours of my life on. and whether someone likes it or appreciates it is not within my control. This is a truth in art . . . make good art and someone will like it. Experiencing the internet with all its access to great art and artists is a delight. Living in these exciting times, it seems useful to both write and comment on my own experiences. Artisting (my grandkids' word) is a noble vocation, and using accumulated skills to retell accumulated experiences will hopefully culminate in a work of its own.

April showers bring May flowers for June weddings. Really nice photo, I can almost sense their aroma. “If a blossom hath four petals do not make five in your drawing lest you dishonor the beauty of it’s soul”.

  10. In Greek, the word for lilac is paskhalia, because it blooms around Greek Easter (Paskha). Ours here in Maryland are long since finished. Nice photo. Nice poem.

  17. somuchworldsolittletime – San Francisco Bay Area & around the world – Since 2005 I've lived and worked the vast majority of the time away from my family and friends in the US...and right from the start my friends and family asked "how will we know where you are and what you're doing?" So to keep friends, family and colleagues visually up to speed with where I am and what I'm seeing, I've been throwing photos and the occasional text up on the blog ever since. And I am SO grateful for all my viewers who comment, and look at the photos, and seem to appreciate what I'm doing! Thanks! Please let me know what you like, what you'd like to see more of or less of, and so on -- since I tend to go to a new work environment every other year or so, it's great to have some continuity and sense of connections that remain. :-) I alternate between extended field assignments with MSF, Medecins sans Frontieres (aka doctors without borders), and down time visiting friends and family in the US and around the world. I'm a visual person, and I try with this blog to show small glimpses of the beautiful, educational, challenging and interesting places and people I'm meeting and working with. I also sometimes wax poetic and pedantic on the kookiness of America and American politics in general, but I hope the photos will still carry you over any text that gets too long. If you're curious you can scan through past entries and see photos and stories from many countries on most continents. Thanks for reading the blog and giving me any feedback and suggestions you have. At the very bottom of the page, you'll find a few links: to follow the blog & get notification any time I post something new, to see what posts have been most popular the last couple days, and an archive that allows you to call up past months from the beginning, one at a time. Most entries from before August 2010 show up best in their original format at paulbrockmann.blogspot.com - feel free to link over there for older entries if you're curious. I think it's still up and active. Drop a note if you feel so inclined: generous and helpful comments are always welcome. Peace. Since some friends old and new are curious about the work I’ve been doing, I’ve decided I’ll start a running log here of all the highly-public links I can share so that, if you’d like to hear about the work in other media (radio, TV, etc.) you can check it out. Generally it’ll be most recent first, oldest last… http://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/Immersive-exhibition-on-the-plight-of-refugees-12327880.php http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/article/haiti-heavy-toll-cuts-donor-support-maternal-health-care http://hpnhaiti.com/nouvelles/index.php/societe/53-sante/626-haiti-violence-sexuelle-msf-souligne-une-urgence-medicale http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/pacific/radio/program/pacific-beat/png-family-violence-needs-local-and-overseas-attention/1281294 http://devpolicy.org/pngs-violence-epidemic-and-the-medical-response-in-conversation-with-msfs-paul-brockmann-20140402/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-06/shocking-violence-statistics-force-png-response/5244180 http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/program/pacific-beat/png-plans-a-comprehensive-response-to-family-and-sexual-violence/1224568 http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/29/papua-new-guinea-ngos-pledge-to-battle-family-and-sexual-violence-epidemic http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/nov/26/papua-new-guinea-takes-steps-against-abuse http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-07-08/an-png-abuse-clinic/4807000?section=australianetworknews http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/07/australia-pledges-3m-for-papua-new-guinea-centre-for-victims-of-violence

Oh, I *miss* lilacs! This is lovely but it’s making me homesick. I’ve been told they only bloom in climates with a hard winter, so i haven’t been in lilac territory for a long time… Thanks!

My artwork represents my passion for this ascension along with aesthetics and inspiration. I am fascinated and inspired greatly by other artists, experiences and the many aesthetics in life.
