  4. This is such a contrast to so many spring photos, and just as delightful. As the old saying goes, we do what we can – even if we only can manage lichen instead of lovely flowers and leaves!

  5. I like the texture in this and yes, i agree, Spring will not be surrendered. (although I was wondering when we were still having snow at the beginning of the week). It is beautiful now.

  7. somuchworldsolittletime – San Francisco Bay Area & around the world – Since 2005 I've lived and worked the vast majority of the time away from my family and friends in the US...and right from the start my friends and family asked "how will we know where you are and what you're doing?" So to keep friends, family and colleagues visually up to speed with where I am and what I'm seeing, I've been throwing photos and the occasional text up on the blog ever since. And I am SO grateful for all my viewers who comment, and look at the photos, and seem to appreciate what I'm doing! Thanks! Please let me know what you like, what you'd like to see more of or less of, and so on -- since I tend to go to a new work environment every other year or so, it's great to have some continuity and sense of connections that remain. :-) I alternate between extended field assignments with MSF, Medecins sans Frontieres (aka doctors without borders), and down time visiting friends and family in the US and around the world. I'm a visual person, and I try with this blog to show small glimpses of the beautiful, educational, challenging and interesting places and people I'm meeting and working with. I also sometimes wax poetic and pedantic on the kookiness of America and American politics in general, but I hope the photos will still carry you over any text that gets too long. If you're curious you can scan through past entries and see photos and stories from many countries on most continents. Thanks for reading the blog and giving me any feedback and suggestions you have. At the very bottom of the page, you'll find a few links: to follow the blog & get notification any time I post something new, to see what posts have been most popular the last couple days, and an archive that allows you to call up past months from the beginning, one at a time. Most entries from before August 2010 show up best in their original format at paulbrockmann.blogspot.com - feel free to link over there for older entries if you're curious. I think it's still up and active. Drop a note if you feel so inclined: generous and helpful comments are always welcome. Peace. Since some friends old and new are curious about the work I’ve been doing, I’ve decided I’ll start a running log here of all the highly-public links I can share so that, if you’d like to hear about the work in other media (radio, TV, etc.) you can check it out. Generally it’ll be most recent first, oldest last… http://www.sfchronicle.com/news/article/Immersive-exhibition-on-the-plight-of-refugees-12327880.php http://www.doctorswithoutborders.org/article/haiti-heavy-toll-cuts-donor-support-maternal-health-care http://hpnhaiti.com/nouvelles/index.php/societe/53-sante/626-haiti-violence-sexuelle-msf-souligne-une-urgence-medicale http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/pacific/radio/program/pacific-beat/png-family-violence-needs-local-and-overseas-attention/1281294 http://devpolicy.org/pngs-violence-epidemic-and-the-medical-response-in-conversation-with-msfs-paul-brockmann-20140402/ http://www.abc.net.au/news/2014-02-06/shocking-violence-statistics-force-png-response/5244180 http://www.radioaustralia.net.au/international/radio/program/pacific-beat/png-plans-a-comprehensive-response-to-family-and-sexual-violence/1224568 http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/29/papua-new-guinea-ngos-pledge-to-battle-family-and-sexual-violence-epidemic http://www.theguardian.com/society/2013/nov/26/papua-new-guinea-takes-steps-against-abuse http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-07-08/an-png-abuse-clinic/4807000?section=australianetworknews http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/feb/07/australia-pledges-3m-for-papua-new-guinea-centre-for-victims-of-violence

Glad you liked my last. I’ll admit I had your fantastic images and imagination in my mind as I took some of my own up there…but I certainly don’t feel up to your standard, most of the time. 😉 Thanks as always for keeping me creative.

    1. That’s a tremendous compliment. Thank you so much. The joy is in the creativity. And to have so much encouragement from people is amazing. Keep exploring!

  8. becky6259 – My daddy married a city girl and put her in the country, and then I married a city boy and he put me in the city...for awhile anyway. We're now living in small-town Mid-Missouri and enjoying the best of both worlds!
    becky6259 says:

    Very nice!

  9. Emily Nicol – I am a wife, a mother, and a professional, with a very British sense of humour. An ex Londoner, I now live in the Oxfordshire countryside with my three children and one workaholic cardiologist husband.

    How lovely!

  10. Mary Mageau – Queensland, Australia – I am a writer and nature photographer, living in a small rural village in the Samford Valley. Here on Australia’s east coast, surrounded by the Brisbane State Forest Park and four rugged mountains, I enjoy exploring new and creative ways to engage with the natural world that surrounds me. My husband and I often roam around Australia as we visit the outback and cities of interest. Our favourite destinations also include the islands scattered throughout the Pacific Ocean. With my notebook, pen and camera at hand, I’ve enjoyed researching and photographing amazing places and scenery, together with the stunning flowers and foliage found in these unique parts of our world. This blog―Nature as Art and Inspiration―has developed through my love of writing and travel.
    Mary Mageau says:

Wonderful photo. How nature loves to decorate herself for our pleasure.

  11. LB – I'm a woman who loves spending time on the motorcycle and in, or on, any body of water. I love traveling and reading, baking and cooking, taking way too many pictures, and enjoying my family and friends. Life is an adventure, and I want to remember and express my joy for it! This is a journal for me ... so I'll never forget the good times and to remind me of them on more challenging days.
    LB says:

    Love lichen!

  12. Tina Liu – New York, NY – Poetry and discourse, philosophy and the natural sciences. Delving into the mind, because exploration never ends with a question. It is a state of being, not a static moment.
    Tina Liu says:

    Resilient spring. I love it!
