The River

I let
the current carry
all my worry away

surrender
with complete abandon
to life’s plan

unfurled blossom
both summoning and surrendering
all possibilities

awakened by
and surrendered to
the day’s beauty

white flags raised
the field
is surrendered

in the rush of change
the only way to become oriented
is to surrender to transformation

a tender pink sky
softened the world
strife surrendered

the apple tree
surrenders but does not succumb
to gravity’s demands

In the absence of leaves
the branch wears lichen.
Spring will not be surrendered.

the first surrender is to color
the second is to be untethered by the wind
and the final surrender is to perish in form and replenish the earth
