A solitary leaf
exquisitely demonstrates
the art of being.
Retired Workers
Rust may diminish their substance
but their labor has shaped
the land on which they rest.
Hallelujah
The glory
of goodness
surrounds us.
Nearness
You know the divine.
It radiates light and calls you to it.
Sometimes its name is beauty.
Arrival
At the sacred spot
you will reach a delicate fence
of frost frozen flowers.
Gallant-Tree
In the thickest part of the thicket
where the footing was most precarious
a branch held my weight and restored my balance.
Chivalry lives in the woods.
Tranquility
A light dusting of snow
quiets the woods with peace enough
to sooth the world.
The Choir
Seedheads sing
winter’s carols
in the wind.
The Mare
Her spirit shone past her uncared for mane and coat.
She spoke with her eyes about dignity and hope.
Curls
Golden girl of the forest
the birch wears its bark
in a cascade of curls.
Bonfire
The burn pile
awaits the safety of snow
before the dance of flames.
Entwined
Two trunks separated only by
a whisper of wind
a ray of light.
Forest Magic
golden wands
adorned with dewdrop diamonds
tools for casting a spell of beauty
Woodland Tapestry
against the silver backdrop of bare branches
weeds and leaves
are the warp and woof of the landscape
Outcropping
The granite ledge
makes itself known
by refusing all trees.
Mighty Foot
The old tree stands
like an elephant
remembering all.
Halo
Blessed is the humble seed
who is the spirit of the earth
Out of the Woods
Suddenly sunlight
and the meadow appears.
The dark treacherous trail
becomes a gentle winding path.
Undaunted
by winter’s demands
evergreens refuse to release color or needles
and stand in defiant contrast to the ever greying landscape.
Uprooted
Grandfather still holds onto stones from the earth.
No longer a giant, now a sculpture
a testament to the power of nature.
Quiet White
Winter
white washes
the woods.
Aspiration
Branches reach
through blue sky and clouds
to touch the heavens.
Time
As the oak leaf rests on granite
millenniums cradle this season.
Winter Bloom
The cold bears gifts
the fleeting bloom
of an ice orchid.
River Run
Sunlight skates
atop the river
gliding on the cold
Ocean Grass
the meadow waves
lap at the birch shore line
Balance
becomes possible
by accepting
circumstances.
The Spirit of Colors
Colors emanate
from bare branches
autumn’s aura
Sweets
Winter candy coats the ground
and transforms it
into a nonpareil.
Winter’s Approach
Ice creeps across the marsh.
Pine trees await their white winter coats.
Cold sharpens the silence.
