right sized
I rest
in their wisdom
Morning Fog
low land sleeps
in dreamy white
as the day softly begins
Glazed
encased with ice
a shellacking of bark
winter’s shine and sheen
Steady
this winter’s snow
comes and goes
while steady is the cold
Chosen
bright spot
in a grey winter day
Thaw
temperatures rise
the ice parts
green reaches for the sun
Long Shadow
January’s long shadow
reaches for the new year
as she carries the past
Ghosts
fog turns
the oaks to ghosts
but dimmed memories of shade
Time Keepers
the trees by the tracks
keep the train’s schedule
Beyond
a lone pine
and the mountain beyond
behind brave branched trees
Winter’s Song
earth’s orchestra plays
winter’s melody of cold
while the wind harmonizes
in ice and snow
God’s Eye
the divine watcher
opens the day
with light
Revealed
shadow and ice reveal
the fence’s wobbly fears
Practice
winter is
the practice
of patience
Reverie
corn stalks
skate and ski
Instruction
birch and snow
illustrate
the nuances of white
Travel
shadows and sunlight
travel
the still river
Ray
a ray of sun
the yellow barn
in a cold field
Snow Petals
winter’s white flower
held aloft by summer’s remnants
shaped by fall’s miscellany
Purple Dawn
it is the sky
that flowers
in winter
Covered
white brightness
blankets everything
in winter’s wonderland
Hold to Thee
snow holds to the leaf
the leaf holds to the branch
the branch holds to the tree
as spirit holds to thee
Mountain View
winter haze
a cloudless day
just time, the mountain and I
Deep Bow
in deference
sunflowers bow
to the new year
River Run
freed by the sun
the river runs
Remains
all that remains
is all that is needed
Lessons in Stone
weathering life
requires all your strength
Many
a storytelling of crows
convened in the birch
ushering spirits past
Roam
memories fastened to the fence post
new dreams roam the field
Reverence
beneath crowns of white
hydrangeas bow their heads
in reverence to winter
