While we assume that listening to the grass grow is a metaphor, it’s a fact that it’s possible to hear corn grow — and without much effort. We used to go into the fields when I was a kid just to listen. I’ve never heard grass grow, but maybe I’m not as good at listening as the cow and ducks.
