  1. derrickjknight – UK – I am an octogenarian enjoying rambling physically and photographing what I see, and rambling in my head as memories are triggered. I also ramble through a lifetime's photographs. In these later years much rambling is done in a car.

  2. judybarton – Still in love, complicated, almost stupid, interested to recognize herself. "Up to the age of eighteen years old everybody writes poems; after, only two categories of people may continue to do it: poets and idiots." (Benedetto Croce). Obviously I do not consider myself a poet.

Obviously I saw your pic and your words together with my own, recent, words involving water and light …

  4. Nigtingale – Palm Bay, FL – Lost in universal mystery where I am in awe of how the world works and where my bipolar mind at times definitely misjudges even the little I understand of the wonderous world.
    Nigtingale says:

lovely. Nice contrast between photo image of shark and calm words that read like a love poem.

  5. inmycorner – This blog began as an opportunity to tell my Dad's stories. I sat with him and the computer and together we told stories. It was a wonderful way to get to know Dad. He was 9. He and Mom had a wonderful life together and since she passed away a year and a half before him - Dad was ready to join her. I no longer tell his stories but have found stories of my own. The impetus to resume this blog was the discovery that I had stage 4 ovarian cancer. Since blogging had been so therapeutic for my dad and I to get through our grief, I felt maybe this would be a good outlet to process my situation. I also hoped it may serve as an outreach to anyone else who is facing this very ominous journey. So far, so good.

Oh, my goodness – that is incredible. I love the analogy that water is like a breath on the animals. Wow. Your mind must have been racing!

    Dear Seedbud,

I love your daily emails. Some, like this one, take my breath away.

I often forward them to my brother and sister, with whom I exchange haiku, and sometimes for practicing the discipline I also convert your verse to that form in addition to forwarding your work unchanged. Today I sent them these remarks and conversion:

I thought you’d enjoy this one — lovely, picture (I like the gentle effect of the white fish where I’d normally expect the more jarring color of a goldfish or an orange koi); .

    To “haikuize” (focussing on feeling/mood/impressions):

    In the still beneath,
    Rain is a gentle caress;
    Water’s soothing breath

I hope you don’t mind this practice, in which I fully cite your site as my source by forwarding your entire email.

    1. Gary, Thank you for sharing with me what you send/sent your brother and sister today. I’m so pleased that my work sparks your creativity. I like your haiku-ized version and admire the practice of adhering to form. Best, Catherine

        Thank you, Catherine (Seedbed).

You’re clearly an inspiration for many others as well, judging by the remarks even just for this one piece, and your remarks on what I’m doing are encouraging to this late-in-life poet/writer.

  7. Gretchen Del Rio – Crestline, California, USA – I first discovered the magic of water based colors when many years ago I began to paint with procion dyes on silk. I loved the unexpected quality of the process. It was so exciting to never be sure what the colors and water would combine to produce. It seemed as though the medium had its own passion. Painting with watercolors and paper is much the same. I love the color combinations and separations that occur spontaneously as the color floats on the water. You can never totally predict what effect will result. If you try to control the medium too much, your painting will be very tight losing its aliveness. The artist must be bold and decisive or the work will not be clear and fresh. It is really like a dance. It becomes a controlled folly in knowing when to let go and when to take charge of the direction that the painting is taking. The images that I paint reflect my emotions and are expression of my life experience. They are not extensively planned, but rather evolve as the painting progresses. I am always surprised by the end result since it comes into being because of what the medium and emotion has suggested. The paintings are from my heart and I always fall in love with the subject. I believe that we are all connected and, if an image touches you, it is because we all have the same heart even though our paths may be different. Most of all, painting what I paint makes me happy. The paintings are my own path unfolding. They are an opening door for me and contain my own passion for life.

A mystical poem and photo. A white/silver koi in a lotus pond says much. Beautiful.

  8. Ian Hamlin – Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand – I've been a full time painter of light for 40 years - self taught and independent, a former President of the NZ Academy of Fine Arts. I'm into sustainability, planting trees and spiritual ecology. This includes growing award winning Lavender oil and olive oil. I'm a student of the Diamond Approach; a psycho-spiritual path to realizing and developing our fullest potential
    Ian Hamlin says:

It’s beautiful to feel the breath from a different perspective, how the medium changes everything and it’s a different world. Thanks

  9. Love this shot (mesmerizing and soothing) and your ‘rain as water’s breath’ haiku, too! 🙂

  10. jane tims – Canada – Hi. I am a writer and biologist. I am also interested in history and community sustainability. I write mostly poetry. My training is in botany, so I often include plants in my poems. Visit me at www.nichepoetryandprose.wordpress.com

  11. firefly1275 – Louisiana – V. Rose enjoys creating mystical characters and worlds, with a touch of the modern day world. When she is not writing or thinking up her next story ideas, she is enjoying South Louisiana sunset.

    Very beautiful photo.

  12. tw – I have many lives: mom, wife, daughter, sister. Breast cancer survivor whose family was decimated by this cruel disease. Human resources manager, technology leader, nurse. That last one is my way of paying it forward. I cherish life (though its tough sometimes), love nature and all the little things that are often overlooked. Small kindnesses matter.
    tw says:

    Just beautiful 🙂

  13. I loved this. I like poetry, but I’m a bit picky on what I read. I really enjoyed this work.

  14. Candia – Suttonford, Isles of Wonder – My name is Candia. Its initial consonant alliterates with “cow” and there are connotations with the adjective “candid.” I started writing this blog in the summer of 2012. I started writing ironic news comment and then added reviews, stand-alone chapters as experiments in collecting writing for a humorous novel. I interspersed these with my own poetry, most of which had been published in reputable small magazines. Lately I have been writing more poetry than ever and I have been experimenting with different forms and structures. My first anthology came out last year (Its Own Place) and I have been giving readings to various groups and doing book signings. Hope you will dip into my archives and perhaps choose to follow me. It is my readers that encourage me to keep producing!
    Candia says:

The ghost of a thought, perfectly expressed.
