  1. derrickjknight – UK – I am an octogenarian enjoying rambling physically and photographing what I see, and rambling in my head as memories are triggered. I also ramble through a lifetime's photographs. In these later years much rambling is done in a car.
    derrickjknight says:

Your usual good work shows the difference between your robins and ours

And they sure love to warble!

    1. Thanks! I envy you that black squirrel – he’s quite dashing. Your garden must be very special for the cardinals to come so often and in large numbers. For me cardinals hold a most special magic and place in my heart.

  3. Forty years ago I read “The Bears and I” by Robert Franklin Leslie, in which it happens that a family of robins visits his cabin each year while he relates a spine tingling memoir about bear cubs he adopts. I’ve read the book several more times, just to be there again, with that enduring family of author, bears and robins. He made me love them and remember them all forever. Just wanted to share something enduring (for me) in appreciation of your meaningful photo.

    1. Niaih – thank you so much for sharing this (and for all you rind and thoughtful words). Now “The Bears and I” is on my reading list!

  4. North American robins…so different to our robins with red bibs. Yours are lovely…terracotta bibs, and warming hopeful words. Thank you on a cold, dull,’ dreich’ day in Scotland!

      1. Thank you. The sun came out briefly, long enough for me to take a picture of Acer Deshojo bonsai on the decking…the Scots ken some bonnie wee words!

  5. Gretchen Del Rio – Crestline, California, USA – I first discovered the magic of water based colors when many years ago I began to paint with procion dyes on silk. I loved the unexpected quality of the process. It was so exciting to never be sure what the colors and water would combine to produce. It seemed as though the medium had its own passion. Painting with watercolors and paper is much the same. I love the color combinations and separations that occur spontaneously as the color floats on the water. You can never totally predict what effect will result. If you try to control the medium too much, your painting will be very tight losing its aliveness. The artist must be bold and decisive or the work will not be clear and fresh. It is really like a dance. It becomes a controlled folly in knowing when to let go and when to take charge of the direction that the painting is taking. The images that I paint reflect my emotions and are expression of my life experience. They are not extensively planned, but rather evolve as the painting progresses. I am always surprised by the end result since it comes into being because of what the medium and emotion has suggested. The paintings are from my heart and I always fall in love with the subject. I believe that we are all connected and, if an image touches you, it is because we all have the same heart even though our paths may be different. Most of all, painting what I paint makes me happy. The paintings are my own path unfolding. They are an opening door for me and contain my own passion for life.

Small colorful birds are like flowers. They do something to your heart that you cannot put into words.

  6. So often dazzled by color and movements in my small garden, so distracted– your daily posts help me see. These birds, those trees. Such wonders.

  7. heavenhappens – Welcome to my life. You can share my grown up world here at http://heavenhappens.me where I blog my faith, my thoughts, my life, my travels, my photographs and my poetry. Growing up just after the war was a grim experience. So, now that I have 7 grandchildren, I am reclaiming my childhood by seeing the world anew through their eyes. Every minute I spend with them is magical. So this blog is for them ~ Ben, Rosie, Tiffany, Stanley, Thea, Mateo, and the youngest, Olivia! I hope, when they are all grown up, they will enjoy reading it and finding out about their grandma’s life, and know how very happy they made her. I hope you enjoy reading my posts, leave a comment or a link and I will get back to you. I’m sorry to say that my darling husband died of Covid on Good Friday 2020. Since then the wind has gone out of my sails and I’ve hardly written a thing. I will try to pick up my life and start writing again one day. But for now please enjoy exploring my life🕊️

Your robins are different to ours but equally beautiful. The poem is exquisite and says it all. They are delightful little birds.

  8. bipolarsojourner – seattle area – i have struggled with episodic depression for years. i then received a diagnosis of being bipolar, only to find out i didn’t. ends up my psychiatrist really meant to say that multiple bouts of depression are often best treated like bipolar. i had already started this blog as bipolar sojourner and didn't want to switch it over. i am documenting my journeys through my depression jungle.
    bipolarsojourner says:

Man! Your Robins are much fluffier than our neck of the woods. Ours are more sleek year around. Your Robins must get more shrimp*, too. The breast are much more red than our.

  9. I swear a crop of today’s picture was used by Huffington Post in their story about songbirds suffering in a Canadian late-spring blizzard. Poor things.

  10. reocochran – I am experiencing crazy and hapless adventures in dating that may interest people over fifty. I am now 65 this year (2017) and enjoy taking photographs, incorporating stories or poetry on my blog. I have many old posts which are informative and written like essays. I have several love stories collected from family and friends. Even strangers spill their stories, since I am a grown version of the girl next door. I have been trying to live a healthy lifestyle with better food selections and active hiking and walking. I have written four children's books and illustrated them. They are not published but a battered women's shelter used one about neglect and abuse for their children's program and a 4H group used my "Kissing a Bunny is like saying a Prayer" as a coloring book. Please comment or respond so I may get a chance to know you. Sincerely, Robin

  15. sherijkennedyriverside – North Bend, WA USA – Left brain, right brain, I can't decide. After many years of successful visual arts pursuits, I'm working on my other creative inclinations. For the past 8 years, writing has been my second full time job, and it's worth every sleepless night. Sheri J. Kennedy grew up mostly a city-girl coasthopping from Seattle to rural Pennsylvania, Miami and back to Seattle. She currently resides on the banks of the Snoqualmie River in the scenic Cascade Mountains. Her heart has found its home.

I’ve been enjoying the chorus of birdsong so much these days! These two look very puffed up. Was it really cold, or were they showing off?

    1. It’s been an unusually cold winter – but I think today there were just showing off for each other.

  17. judybarton – Still in love, complicated, almost stupid, interested to recognize herself. "Up to the age of eighteen years old everybody writes poems; after, only two categories of people may continue to do it: poets and idiots." (Benedetto Croce). Obviously I do not consider myself a poet.

  20. Julie Broad – All my life I've loved art and crafts. I could knit and crochet before I started school, and always loved art lessons. I love to learn, trying out new techniques, then moving on to the next one. Last year I started an online Machine Embroidery Course. I love the machine embroidery. One problem I faced though was taking too much time to think about and start each project. So, on 1st January 2015 I decided to deal with the issues. I started my own Photo and Stitch 365 challenge. I'm out taking photos and I'm stitching one small project every day and posting on the Internet. Life is much more hectic and much more satisfying. I hope you enjoy the blog.

This is a beautiful poem. When I’m out walking with a friend we often see them and hear their beautiful song. It is so true.
