  3. Emma Maund – Hi, I'm Emma, a beekeeper, aromatherapist and gardener born and bred in London. I'm a slow blogger posting fortnightly (just) about bees (mostly), nature and wildlife, aromatherapy and gardens. I got married in October 2016 and am now Mrs Apis Mellifera. I'm also taking some time out for other big changes this year. In the meantime, with over 200 posts and pages to read, please feel free to explore.

I echo Lee’s thoughts. Well captured the essence of autumn.

  4. seascapedesigns2013 – Victoria BC CANADA – Seascape Designs was born out of a seaside walk. While marvelling at the beauty of shell fragments on the shore, a glint in the sand caught my eye. It was a piece of sea glass. This "diamond in the rough" fit in so perfectly with its marine surroundings that back in my studio I put the two together and found something magical happening — the glass and shells were meant for each other and the art took shape organically. Born and raised in beautiful BC, it was only when I moved to the wide-open spaces of the prairies that I had to learn to look closer to find the beauty that is all around us. I believe I've carried this training and attitude with me back to the West Coast and put it to use uncovering the gems that wash up along the shores of Victoria. Thanks to the power of the ocean, each shell and fragment of glass is different — it takes thirty to fifty years of tumbling in the waves for a true piece of sea glass to be born. When I work on a piece, I want that individuality to shine through, so I allow the shell to guide the outcome. By employing a background in watercolour painting, I then enhance the shells with fanciful, bright colours that really allow the sea glass to stand out. All my shells and glass have been harvested from the area. Whether wearing my jewellery or displaying my art, the owner is connected both literally and in imagination with this beautiful region.

There is such beauty in everything. Good eye!

  5. Melissa Shaw-Smith – I hope I will always be as endlessly curious about the natural worlds as the 7 year-old me in that goofy picture. Writing is a solitary business, this blog is my way of making it count.

Stunning. Truth in nature, and nature in truth.

  6. Very nice. But are colors departing this time of year, or ready to burst into vibrancy? Good shot.

Great photo and I love the idea of the flower giving up her colour reluctantly.

Hi. This is so cool. Usually the fading flowers are the ones I never ‘see’, but now I will look for their beauty. Nice post! Jane

  9. chrisstov – I have reached retirement age. I am a keen amateur photographer. I like walking and listening to classical and film music, also some popular and pop music from the 60s and 70s. I like reading and have recently discovered Kindle and lately the kindle fire.
    chrisstov says:

Although fading there is plenty of colour in that picture.

  10. Dr. Denny Wilkins – Dr. Denny Wilkins professes journalism at a small, private university in the Northeast. He has climbed, hiked, kayaked, photographed, skied, and otherwise meandered aimlessly throughout the American West for decades. He has degrees in geology, environmental studies, and communication — and has tried to make use of them as a co-founder of the progressive cultural blog ScholarsandRogues.com. He’s broadly interested in how the world works and why it works that way. He hates writing, although he does like having written well.
    Dr. Denny says:

Wow … a striking, dramatic image.
