daisies serenade
the peony’s
waning days
pinked
from chilly nights
dew and disintegration
as everything changes
keep flowering
as long as you can
down by the river
the susans and goldenrod
commune
a crowd
of colors
celebrate
floated by
gracefully entering
the next dimension
green field sparkles with frost
as winter takes residence
in the shadow’s depth
golden lanterns
in the fading light
accompany day into night
half covered
in her baby pelt
dashing toward adulthood
a memory of last summer’s sun
the winter field not yet touched
by the greens of spring
like the teeth of a zipper
brown and ground emerge
opening to spring
sun shoulders out the snow
last years blooms trumpet
beauty’s determination
seeds slumber while
forced bulbs bloom
in late winter’s light
the single leaf
contains all of fall’s
colors and transitions
the skeleton of spring
dances in the blue
summoning green
in her final season
still she reigns supreme
Summer’s days wane
flower’s colors fade.
In muted shades
softly the glooming
fades away the day.
The creek moves fast cutting its way
through the meadow towards the river
trying to outrun the inevitable freeze.
The fifth season is mud season.
The earth is liquid with rain and snow melt,
rich with nutrients and brimming with the beginnings of new life.
Magnificent primordial ooze.
but your beauty and grace remain
and will be scattered by the wind.
