Rock of Ages

the ancient rock
with its sleepy eye
watches all of time
travel by

trees dream in misty green
of heaven’s touch and fairy rings

without snow
the forest does not sleep
life continues to grow

december glooming
dark light on the marsh
this is where shadows sleep

seeds slumber while
forced bulbs bloom
in late winter’s light

soft as the falling snow
the hum and thrum
of sleeping bees

the iris have been sent to bed
beneath a blanket of maple red

before the toad
is ready to retire
the garden is put to bed

behind the tissue paper petals
resides the magic of relief and sleep

low land sleeps
in dreamy white
as the day softly begins

Tousled haired
the field wakes
from winter’s sleep.

The forest bed is made
and awaits animal dreams
and blankets of snow

Late afternoon
the youngest ones
slumber on soft grass

Down in the field the garden bed sleeps
dreaming of rain, flowers and food
and knowledgeable hands that coax and groom.
