shade shelters the cold
allowing winter to persist
between pickets and pines

I rest
in their wisdom
Chieftan Trees
The sweetest of woods
pine’s scent releases burdens from heads and hearts
and so they are known as the Keepers of Peace.

Clouds gather in formation
ascending towards the heavens
marching across the sky
as pines stand sentry to their parade.

The pines keep watch
over the residents perpetual sleep
whispering peace, peace.

Illumination comes from above
lighting that which lies within.
