Presence

Show your true colors
bloom boldly
claim and exclaim yourself.

Greens

In the door yard garden
pick yourself a salad
taste summer.

Magic Wands

Fairy dust is gathered on magic wands
and used to clean away all ugliness
of sight, word and deed.

Freckles

Splendid is the smattering
of red upon pink petals
freckle faced lily
enchanting girl of the garden

Lilly

Raspberry colored beauties
undeterred by the weather
wear raindrops like diamonds.

Auspiciousness

Marigold is the sun’s bride,
the guardian of goodness
at the garden’s gate.

Astilbe

The red spire rises.
Nature’s Olympic flame of summer
will burn bright for the duration.

Fleur-de-lis

Noble in color, royal in birthright
Iris is the garden’s rainbow goddess.

Traveler’s Joy

Darling of the door yard garden
clematis climbs up and along the picket fence;
most brilliant and ingenious buttercup.

Friends

Johnny jumps up
to greet me in the morning
pledging to forget me not.

Blooms with Stone

In the garden everything finds its rightful home
a stone is sheltered by a mass of blooms
and so it should be.

Sleeping Garden

Down in the field the garden bed sleeps
dreaming of rain, flowers and food
and knowledgeable hands that coax and groom.

Cement Squirrel

It is the  magic of care and whimsey
that moves you from spot to spot
to enjoy the views of the garden.

Nearness

Tim
seeks me
in the garden

small
white
butterfly

always
hovering
nearby

Ghost
that I glimpse
from the side of my eye

Darting through blossoms
resting on leaves
taking advantage of sunshine and breeze

Pointing out a shapely cloud
waiting on my mailbox
inquisitive antenna cocked

Reminding me
as mortality
rages on

death
is not
the final stop.

Tim Mann, dear friend and fellow traveler,
you are remembered.

Hollyhock

Dark as midnight
sentry at the garden’s edge
denouncing the dawn garden feasting of deer

What the garden gives

Midsummer brings the brown eyed susan,
cone flower, cosmo, pink and lavendar
onto the table, bedside and mantle.
An abundance of beauty.
