wet woods

halo of light
gracing us

the ripple of birch
a wash of maple, ash and pine
soft autumn seen

leaves flight
delivers them
back to their roots

maple
sends up
a final flare of color

orange and purple dawn
honored by the morning moon
color is the light of autumn’s days

edges drink the colors
of weather and time
which paint the leaves

morning fog rolls out
revealing the days
new colors

the landscape floods with color
and soaks into our every cell
fortifying us for winter’s long monochrome
