Sunset Cinder

we savor the day’s embers
as November night
shutters the afternoon

we warm ourselves
on the embers
of the day

shining like gold
glowing like embers
light is life

a buoyancy of clouds
above the embers
of the day

deep in the shade
wild columbine’s
embers burn

clouds smolder
their red embers
igniting the water’s edge

leaves capture
the power of the sun
becoming embers of autumn

last year’s leaves
embers of sunshine
defying the cold

Indian Paintbrush colors the meadow
with embers of sunset.

Quietly, quickly
the embers of the day
melt away into grey.
