well past midnight
alone in the moonlight
flakes gather into flocking

snowflakes on tippy toes
the lighter they are
the higher they stack

I can almost see time
accumulating
in the blades of grass

morning light
on last night’s
weightless accumulation

silent now
like a walk
in the clouds

small space
large enough
for refuge

covered branches
the forest’s
cable knit sweater

winter bejeweled bench
the snow queen’s
throne prepared

flame extinguished
now illuminated
with memories

flakes as light as air
and still the humble pine
bows deeply to winter

blizzard snow
so fine it can be missed
as it gathers in inches and feet

snowflakes so small
they are felt more than seen
sneaky snow accumulates
