Water’s Way

Cold that is no longer snow
makes a mad dash down the brook
rushing towards spring, trying to catch summer.

Frosty Morn

The pond has broken winter’s icy hold
but the land struggles to shrug off the frosty morning cold.

Dearest Pine

offers color all through winter
and presents a profusion of green vitality
in these last heartless days before the blooming of spring.

Delicate

Branches blush as buds begin to swell.
Subtly color creeps into the landscape.

Sweet Magnolia

The bright blue sky bites with cold.
Buds hunker down waiting for a warmer sun
to shed their fuzzy jackets and unfurl petaled perfection.

Return

The landscape shifts from white to green.
Ice is no match for the determination of spring.

Beneath

A thin blanket of snow covers the pond
concealing the secret lives of fish.

Melt

As the earth softens
spring finds hospitality
in the primordial offering of mud.
