  1. Hi! I liked the post. Nice!

  2. Steven Tryon – Irondequoit, NY – I am a photographer, walker, and sometime paddler, a theologically-educated geek living in Rochester, NY. Once upon a time I was an Army helicopter jockey in Alaska. Supports gay/lesbian/trans/whatever folks. I started with film, switched to digital, then went back to classic film cameras.

Geometry always was my favorite subject.

  3. clcouch123 – In conversation, I prefer Christopher. My mom named me after Christopher Robin, after all. In writing, I use “C L Couch” (or, more simply, “c l couch”) because the form is genderless and also frankly easier to use. I have awful writer’s cramp. I am an educator more or less retired, more or less due to disability. At present, I live in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania (USA). My writing here I mean to be occasional and also devotional. Either or both. The banner and profile photographs are by my friend and peer Debra Danielson. More of Debbie’s work to be enjoyed is at debradanielson.org. Thanks to each of you and both and all for coming to my blog.

    1. Thanks. You might be interested in pastPeter comment. He has a lot of interesting things to add to this about structural biology.

    Wow!

  5. pastpeter – Sometime Senior Scientist, sometime Senior Pastor, now senior citizen, happily retired and living once again on Long Island, New York – the place people always want to leave but always come back to. Our retirement years have taken Marian and me to mid-coast Maine (A Maine Winter), to the New Hampshire Lakes region (A New Hampshire Journal), and then back to Long Island, where we had spent the 17 “best years of our lives” (Past Pastoring). We loved the north country, but are so glad to be “Home” (Long Islanders).
    pastpeter says:

Pentagonal symmetry occurs only in biological systems, often combined with hexagons – which usually requires them both to “bend a little.” Inorganic crystals never have pentagonal symmetry. Many “built in constraints.” Steve Gould was an expert on them. Oh the happy memories of structural biology!

    1. Peter, thanks so much for sharing that!! Fascinating. There is a lot of beauty in structural biology.
