  2. spiritualdragonfly – Eastern Shore – I WANT OUT OF LABELS. I DON'T WANT MY WHOLE LIFE CRAMMED INTO A SINGLE WORD, OR STORY. I WANT TO FIND SOMETHING ELSE, UNKNOWABLE, SOME PLACE TO BE THAT'S NOT ON THE MAP. A REAL ADVENTURE. A MYSTERY. A BLANK. UNKNOWN. UNDEFINED"(Chuck Palahniuk) *************** So, I've started my 'ABOUT' page with this particular quote because I feel it's a pretty good fit for me. Every day of our lives is a blank slate, a new beginning that we get to fill......Each day I'm evolving, so to try and tell you who I am is going to change on any given day. One day I'm spirited and wild, the next solemn. One day I'm anxious, another I'm full of piss and vinegar. I guess you could say I am a Hodge Podge....living a sometimes beautifully chaotic, yet simple life that I choose to share with you......

  3. Hazel Stark – Coastal Maine – I grew up in Maine (choosing a tent in the woods behind my parents' house as my luxurious bedroom for more than half of my childhood), where my passion for the outdoors and the people who live it began. I went to college off the coast of Maine where I focused on ethnobotany and natural history, moved to California to teach at an outdoor school for a year, moved back to Maine to be the caretaker of an entire island, then spent a year living and learning in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem of northwestern Wyoming. I've been back in Maine since 2016. I run Maine Outdoor School, L3C, help schools raise Atlantic salmon, and do a lot of writing on the side.
    Hazel Stark says:

    Stunning! What a moment.

  4. A wonderful, powerful image, fraught with symbolism. The heron is a strong guardian spirit of the Ancestors to the Abenaki; it is called Kasco (as in Maine’s Casco Bay).

  6. Kat at travelgardeneat – Life sometimes gets so busy, we forget to stop and smell the roses. Travel.Garden.Eat is a reminder to slow down and enjoy the things that make good memories and replenish the soul!

The reflection adds such a mystical layer to the photo — beautiful image!

  7. kim881 – A retired teacher, I am originally from London; lived in Cologne, Germany for nearly eight years, and the Republic of Ireland for two years, where I gave birth to my daughter. I have lived in North Norfolk in the UK for twenty three years. Reading and writing have been a huge part of my life since I was very young. I used to write mainly poetry, moved on to short stories, and finished my first novel for children aged 8+ at the beginning of this year: a ghost story set in London in the Second World War. I am currently writing a novel for older children, another ghost story, this time set in North Norfolk. I am an examiner and moderator for English and English Literature, and a volunteer at local libraries, leading Bounce and Rhyme for babies and toddlers, as well as a Chatterbooks reading group for older children. Contact with children keeps me young and alive. I can't wait to have grandchildren. Our two cats run wild in our overgrown garden that is also occasionally home to deer, hedgehogs, owls and dragonflies, and a huge variety of other birds and wildlife. I can see it all from my desk; it's peaceful, green and food for the imagination. Apart from being a huge Radio 4 fan, I love music, theatre and anything in the horror genre.

    I love this.

Gorgeous and serene picture. I love the reflection!

  9. Gretchen Del Rio – Crestline, California, USA – I first discovered the magic of water based colors when many years ago I began to paint with procion dyes on silk. I loved the unexpected quality of the process. It was so exciting to never be sure what the colors and water would combine to produce. It seemed as though the medium had its own passion. Painting with watercolors and paper is much the same. I love the color combinations and separations that occur spontaneously as the color floats on the water. You can never totally predict what effect will result. If you try to control the medium too much, your painting will be very tight losing its aliveness. The artist must be bold and decisive or the work will not be clear and fresh. It is really like a dance. It becomes a controlled folly in knowing when to let go and when to take charge of the direction that the painting is taking. The images that I paint reflect my emotions and are expression of my life experience. They are not extensively planned, but rather evolve as the painting progresses. I am always surprised by the end result since it comes into being because of what the medium and emotion has suggested. The paintings are from my heart and I always fall in love with the subject. I believe that we are all connected and, if an image touches you, it is because we all have the same heart even though our paths may be different. Most of all, painting what I paint makes me happy. The paintings are my own path unfolding. They are an opening door for me and contain my own passion for life.

A beauty. I can feel the stillness.

  12. katieprior – Taker of photos, tenderer of plants, avid reader of books. Currently living in the North of England, hoping to get better images, to keep my plants alive and to find a quiet moment to read my book.
    katieprior says:

Beautiful! I really like how you have isolated the heron with the backlighting against the morning mist.

  13. 2ndhalfolife – In the second (or really third?) half of my life now. Moving into the more crone stage: out of my head, into my soul. My magic is returning after many years of having lost it to the streets of life. There have been some very dark times, but these have made my journey rich with the stuff of possibility. Because out of darkness has come the glittering beauty of illumination. It has come with struggle and toil, and not without help--but I am here, and I am mostly in tact, and I'm here to share the rest of this journey with you all if you care to join me.......
    2ndhalfolife says:

Wonderful. Didn’t see my heron much this year……

  14. Fantastic photo.

Your poem is food for thought: “there is no psychological time only chronological time.”

In other words: there is only the now.

  15. Simple, beautiful, and up to your usual standards. I loved it. jlheman1945

Photography is for me the best way of expression, with the words I'm clumsy. In an image can express feelings, beauty, environment, sadness, joy, sensuality, vastness, fascination, .... they say that "a picture is worth a thousand words." The same thing happens with painting and drawing.
