  1. Dr. Denny Wilkins – Dr. Denny Wilkins professes journalism at a small, private university in the Northeast. He has climbed, hiked, kayaked, photographed, skied, and otherwise meandered aimlessly throughout the American West for decades. He has degrees in geology, environmental studies, and communication — and has tried to make use of them as a co-founder of the progressive cultural blog ScholarsandRogues.com. He’s broadly interested in how the world works and why it works that way. He hates writing, although he does like having written well.

Yes, mud: too often we want to see only what’s “pretty,” but the wider view is much richer than that. As you report.

  5. Your words and images are perfectly attuned, but, as the last commenter noted, never sentimental. Thank you for your daily offering, which helps me center myself in the morning.

Don’t forget the melted ice and snow that fills the streams and rivers! I miss the snow that I had when I lived in Pa. Have been living in Houston thirty years now!

  8. maryoconnor12 – Along the Connecticut shoreline – I am a writer, poet, community volunteer, pupil of psychology, writing instructor, guest speaker, artist, lover of nature, curious traveler and author of Life Is Full of Sweet Spots, An Exploration of Joy, as well as Dreams of a Wingless Child, a book of award-winning poetry. An advocate of the power of writing as an agent of change, I enjoy speaking to community groups about the joy of making words sing and conduct creative poetry writing workshops for inmates at the State of Connecticut’s York Correctional Institution. As a writer and a painter, I enjoy living along the Connecticut shore, where I infuse everyday observations of the natural world with the sensitivity and insightfulness that tend to define my experience of life. It is these reflections that have helped me realize that one need not look far to find an element of peace, of celebration, of joy, in this inordinate world of which we are all a part.

  12. ambien0 – Paw Paw IL – Yes Paw Paw does exist. It is on an old Chicago - Galena stage line. We’ve only lived here since 2002 starting out in Chicago (west Rogers Park) in the early 70’s, then west to Glen Ellyn where husband Dan and I bought our first home and raised son and daughter, Natalie and Bill. Having grown up in a rural area of upstate New York with a cacophony of animals and 4H activities, wild and natural places – and farm life – have always called me. Those interests morphed into many years of backpacking in Colorado, canoeing in Wisconsin and biking the Prairie Path as well as a long career in the landscaping field. I continue my passion for plants and beautiful outdoor spaces through my business and website Nearlywild.net. I have two amazing and accomplished adult children that I am immensely proud of and visit regularly – Chicago and San Francisco. We share many family interests – good food, biking, outdoor activities and adventure. My goal with this blog is to share our experiences and keep us all connected. Welcome! And please feel free to contribute! Pat

  13. Patricia Tilton – I want "Children's Books Heal" to be a resource for parents, grandparents, teachers and school counselors. My goal is to share books on a wide range of topics that have a healing impact on children who are facing challenges in their lives. If you are looking for good books on grief, autism, visual and hearing impairments, special needs, diversity, bullying, military families and social justice issues, you've come to the right place. I also share books that encourage art, imagination and creativity. I am always searching for those special gems to share with you. If you have a suggestion, please let me know.
