the community of birch
stand by their fallen

bestowing sweetness
with grace
delicacy belies her strength

still flowing
but slower
still drawing
with sunlight

where the birch are gathered
they talk amongst themselves
sharing the wisdom of their society

as colors wane
the pines step forward
offering their constant camaraderie

this side so lush and green
autumn on the opposite shore
place dictates everything

in the darkness
and the scarcity

honeyed autumn light

share the same wish

and grew into a guffaw
the laughter of this log

traveling with the morning light
the mountain revealed through the trees
then the pond shrugs off her shawl of pink mist
so tenderly begins this day

the sound of branches

that’s the stallion running in
