where the golden birch resides
totem for fairies and unicorns.

the welcoming woods.

The back porch stairs
lead to the whole
of the wild woods and world.

mark the dividing line between sun and shade.

The February forest offers
ten thousand shades of grey,
haven for the mourning dove.
Window on Winter
As the cold has settled deep into the ground
stillness has wrapped itself around the house
and both accentuate
the smallest of movements and quietest whispers of the heart.
Dudley’s Deer
Waiting to flash her tail to signal the start of their mountain romp.
