life takes
and yet the swallowtail
still flies

a shared translucence
in petal and wing
delicate, determined things

seemingly silent and still
teeming with the lives
of wing and gill

fan of feathers
catching air
ascend ascend ascend

butterfly
on the thistle
the soft atop the bristle

merciless nature
nothing escapes the end
except beauty

to leap into the air
and trust the sky
will hold

on oak
leafed wings
snow bird flew

so brilliant the blues
on wing and tail
dyed by the sky
each time he flies

Fluff the nest and tuck your beak beneath your wing.
