Storm Brewing

a lid of cold
descends upon
the last of the day’s warmth

we pile up
our quartered logs
to see us through

the sun’s warming glow
breaks through darkness
and into the cold of woods

huddled together
against the cold
warm in company

sunset
glowing like
a warming hearth

sunshine’s warmth
only residence
is inside the window

unexpected warmth
a shaft of light
the robin’s table set

with just
a little warmth
life springs forth

forsythia’s petal rays
in sunburst bloom
warm the landscape

warmth is found
in the company of friends

late february afternoon
everything hungers for light and warmth
so quickly the sun recedes

Winter can bring
whatever it must
the woodshed is full.
