the clarity
of dreams persist

lacing the surface
cold threading
shore to shore

beneath
what is seen
symmetrical rings

living tableau
the vernal pond’s
abstraction and fact

from the river’s surface
the tree looked up at me
delivering heaven at my feet

light dances
across the surface
leaving footprints of joy

earthly delights
colors and flavor developing
beneath the soil’s surface

The laughter and song of the brook
are part of the mountain’s music.
This is the surface of sound.
