Buddha And The Squirrel

faith
cemented into
place

I don’t see how
it hurts the birds
to have them share

everything in the world speaks
the air, the stone, the leaf
it is we who must become fluent

worship as
an acorn eaten
a devotion left

ever
the gracious host
chickadee awaits a turn

your flower pots
are full
of my acorn stash

concentrated stillness
the stalking
of sunshine

In his stillness
the squirrel seeks
to become one with the tree.

Baby squirrel
hides behind his tail
braving predators for sunshine.

The cement child with his faithful squirrel
wears his winter cloths
a cap and shawl of snow.
