The View from Heaven

Nature will keep the pond’s promise that the world will green itself in Spring.
Things may appear upside-down, but everything is as it should be.

Budding Out

In a burst of energy, renewal and hope colors are released
as trees transform the landscape from winter to spring.

Forsythia

Before the sky is reliably blue
before the fields have greened
forsythia champions Spring.

Wanderer

At the edge of the apple grove the spring comes above ground
and wanders across the meadow laughing in delight at the change of season.

Innocence

The magnolia sends forth her first blossoms
into the rare air of March that feels like May.
The sunshine calls and she answers yes in unfurling petals.

Mud

The fifth season is mud season.
The earth is liquid with rain and snow melt,
rich with nutrients and brimming with the beginnings of new life.
Magnificent primordial ooze.

Nest

Winter laid an egg of snow
for March to roost upon
we’ll count the days until the hatch
of finely feathered spring.

Wide Sky

The southern wind announces Spring is on her way to us.
These clouds are ruffles on her petticoats.

Ridge

Just over the ridge
reside my dreams of Spring.
Leafy trees and blooming things;
the sun’s warm embrace,  kisses on my face.

Dormant

Four fallow fields full of snow
hold their place on the mountain side
patiently waiting for Spring to arrive.

Blackberry Lilly

Your seed dazzle like ripened fruit
but your delicious bounty will be blossoms.
A feast for the eyes come spring.

Birdhouse

The babies have feathered and flown.
It is time to wing to the South.
Your house holds the echo of your song,
and awaits your return in the spring.
