awaiting their ride through autumn

marigolds make
their own
pumpkin patch

the trough is full
and the pumpkin pile
is still high

holding their breath
hoping to make it
to thanksgiving

Is my rugby costume enough?
Will they give bones?
Where are all the other dogs?

listen
with your child heart
