Clouds Above The Palisades

sunshine spotlights
the bluff face
as day dips into shadow

palisades shrouded in mist
its sacredness seeps into my bones
and I stand in reverence

one lone piece
of our river valley
mountains and palisades

a pink spotlight
from the palisades
shines into the divine

evergreens
hold back the sky
from falling over the edge

ledge edge
defined by snow
precarious perfection

palisades reveal
the peaks and sheers
of this Appalachian’s child

in service
to the season
cliffside color clings

sacred spot
where eagles teach
flight

hair of gold
atop the granite face
smiling palisade

barn catches
the morning sun
another beginning begun

December rain erased the snow
leaving palisades in the misty midst of grey

eagles nests
affirm
this sacred place
