Tucked Away

in the stillness
and the quiet
we begin again

with one step
we are on the other side
and a new year begins

the landscape sighs
making space
for the new year

at the new year’s start
everything seems to look and lean
into and toward the future

light and colors
reached us through the fog
and so the new year dawned

in January
old views
feel new

January’s long shadow
reaches for the new year
as she carries the past

in deference
sunflowers bow
to the new year
