Pod Gall

The gall of the flying guest
who leaves behind his bulbous nest
but goldenrod the gracious host
welcomes insects more than most.

Nest

Winter laid an egg of snow
for March to roost upon
we’ll count the days until the hatch
of finely feathered spring.

Snowed In

Fluff the nest and tuck your beak beneath your wing.
Winter has arrived. It is sitting on our perch, dear.

First Flight

From the nest to the branch was a short hop,
more courage will be needed
to fully venture into the world.
