big shouldered
a granite monument
to strength and endurance

the rock wall
grew a monument
to love and loss and living

felled for the path
their stature remains
monument to growth and change

every season
leaves an inscription
in lichen lettering

solid as stones
the memories
carried

Immortalized by lightening strike
the tree’s remains are a monument to itself.
