What Nothing Gives

healing eventually
takes place
in the empty space
not a return
a new way of being

the parts
no longer there
filled in by memory

a flurry
of oak leaves
hurries towards winter

there was a lot of leaving
but some love
stayed behind

the leaves give a lingering goodbye
small parts already departed
their absence a bittersweet embellishment

first there was something
that is now
gone

the sun
is always shining
on my memories of you

we sit amongst
forget me nots
and remember you

no longer here
yet everywhere
you are not forgotten

the rock wall
grew a monument
to love and loss and living

With healing
the loss
is finally embraced.

During dark days
if I remember to look up
I can see your magnificence
shining on me.
