Like The Drifting Sky

longing to be
free as a cloud
riding the incoming warmth

I see a longing
in the barns’ window eyes
unsure if it is theirs or mine

more precious
as parts
depart

morning opens my eyes
my heart longs to embrace
the soul of this day

the brook breaks free
and runs for the river
longing to unite with the sea

lonesome for the red winged
longing for the frogs’ calls
believing in the sun
cattails wait

I rarely miss the sea.
The mountains are my ocean.
