Winter Coats

thankful for sheep
horses snug
in their woolen coats

room for thoughts
to wander
between them

souls partaking
in the comfort found
of silent companionship

horses snug
in their stables
the barn blanketed with snow

two by two
horses and ponies
exponential companionship

amongst the herd
a solitary
contemplator

but yes it is
cold enough
for coats

a floating snow
that drifts about
and never settles down

all of creation
holding its breath
listening for the stirrings spring

mended fence
the paddock waits
for green grass and grazing

warmth is found
in the company of friends

Hoping for riders
mares stroll the paddock
smelling freedom in breeze.
