barbed wire
fencing in winter

fog turns
the oaks to ghosts
but dimmed memories of shade

shadow and ice reveal
the fence’s wobbly fears

memories fastened to the fence post
new dreams roam the field

beneath crowns of white
hydrangeas bow their heads
in reverence to winter

snow
swags
the swag

the sun sets
on monoliths
eternal rest is fenced

A flock of blossoms
perch on the garden fence.

When the grass greens
it’s nearing the time to take off
your winter coat.

The ginkgo’s fence
corrals deer out
reserving space for growth.

At the sacred spot
you will reach a delicate fence
of frost frozen flowers.

Although it has been ages
since the corral gate has kept anything in or out
it still refuses to let go.

Corn tassels have browned
mist ushers in the morning
plants and weather are our time keepers.

The land is quilted with care
by leathered hands guiding the blades of the big red tractor.
An old wood fence ties this patch to the next.

Some days in April
Spring feels farther away
than in December.

When you get to the fancy white fence
that’s how you’ll know your at Main Street.
