like rowdy fans
in the bleachers
iris cheer on summer

leaves devoted to their branch
despite the wind and wilt
it must be love that keeps them there

the great outdoors
devoted to the enterprise of
feeding the earth for what comes next

worship as
an acorn eaten
a devotion left

grain in the silo
barn full of hay
devotions made each day

even as
winter’s darkness gathers
color and light persist

late February days
when daytime
feels like twilight

garden prayers
in the morning light
a flowering devotion

a monk of a moth
in birch bark robes
prostrate in prayer

solid as stones
the memories
carried

to be waited for
and received in love
is the soul of homecoming

outside the church window
the prayer and devotion
of snow

a mass of blooms
a choir of color
a devotion of flowers

as snow recedes devoted pines
demonstrate being green
for leafless trees

Each blossom in the spire
is a devotion
to the day.

The birch waves her prayer flags
each flutter a devotion
to the divine.
