I stopped for worship
at the stained glass window
of tree roots and forest

winter holds the river still
but the sun has returned
giving soft pine needle ground

I stopped and
leaned against a tree
to learn how to be

the sky
a robin’s egg
incubating spring

held high in reverence
an offering to the sun
we pause in thanks and praise
As Winter Wanes
with memory
I overlay the landscape
with verdant pulsing greens
Mud Season
melt and freeze
the ground softens
in fits and starts
Snow Squid
in an ocean of snow
the tree becomes
tentacles and fin
Sunrise
greeted by
the wise eye
of the new day
Blow Down
the wind delivered
a lichen corsage
to an icy ‘spring fling’
Titivated Trees
each branch adorned
with a delicate extravagance
of twig made lace

winter weary
we still recognize
her particular beauty

the night slips away
and day is claimed
with sunlight and sparkle

a return to origins
feeding the source with self
life circles and circles

and still each day
new wonders discovered

winter carves
sharp edges
into time

learning from the meadow
I will try to love
the still gray sky and stubborn snow
Everything Bloomed In White
still so cold
but the glittering snow
spoke of spring
Drifts Drift
along with snow
dreams keep gathering
as the birds begin to sing
eventually, eventually spring

it is faith
that always
proceeds flight
What Nothing Gives
healing eventually
takes place
in the empty space
not a return
a new way of being

this fringe of cold
the beauty before
