  1. Such a serene image. I love the phrase ‘guardian of daydreams’. You have captured the energy of the heron beautifully.

  2. Rene Yoshi – Just a transplanted Okinawan-French Southern girl with a wee bit o' Irish, sharing photography and what I'm learning about spiritual things, including putting off legalism and religious traditions, and embracing God's matchless love, tender mercy, and amazing grace!
    Rene Yoshi says:

Oh wow! A work of art!! Gorgeous!

  3. LB – I'm a woman who loves spending time on the motorcycle and in, or on, any body of water. I love traveling and reading, baking and cooking, taking way too many pictures, and enjoying my family and friends. Life is an adventure, and I want to remember and express my joy for it! This is a journal for me ... so I'll never forget the good times and to remind me of them on more challenging days.
    LB says:

    Oh I absolutely love this!

  4. @ablanccanvas – Canada – Been on this planet for awhile and right now I am on a creative exploration. There are no rules. I am a blanc canvas. I am all about living [thinking] creatively.

  6. This is a beautiful shot, but, do yourself a favor and grab a better camera. Or post a higher resolution. You will see, it’s worth it and gives much fun and satisfaction.

  7. Trevor Beech – I've been interested in photography from the age of 15 when I developed a photo of my grandad 50 years on I'm still clicking away. I like to capture photo's of people also landscape. My latest project is photo's that include water.
    Trevor Beech says:

    Very nice

  8. Son of Sharecroppers – I'm an attorney, but far more important to me than my work are my family and my hobbies: in particular, writing, photography, fishing, and guitar. I'm an amateur at all of these things; indeed, I am an amateur at all things important. But I keep trying to learn.
    Son of Sharecroppers says:

    Wonderful photo: delightfully moody.

  9. Gretchen Del Rio – Crestline, California, USA – I first discovered the magic of water based colors when many years ago I began to paint with procion dyes on silk. I loved the unexpected quality of the process. It was so exciting to never be sure what the colors and water would combine to produce. It seemed as though the medium had its own passion. Painting with watercolors and paper is much the same. I love the color combinations and separations that occur spontaneously as the color floats on the water. You can never totally predict what effect will result. If you try to control the medium too much, your painting will be very tight losing its aliveness. The artist must be bold and decisive or the work will not be clear and fresh. It is really like a dance. It becomes a controlled folly in knowing when to let go and when to take charge of the direction that the painting is taking. The images that I paint reflect my emotions and are expression of my life experience. They are not extensively planned, but rather evolve as the painting progresses. I am always surprised by the end result since it comes into being because of what the medium and emotion has suggested. The paintings are from my heart and I always fall in love with the subject. I believe that we are all connected and, if an image touches you, it is because we all have the same heart even though our paths may be different. Most of all, painting what I paint makes me happy. The paintings are my own path unfolding. They are an opening door for me and contain my own passion for life.

  10. The Lunchtime Naturalist – SouthEastern Michigan – I've been working (and making $) as Naturalist or Interpreter since January of 2012. I work at 3 different nature centers in the Metro-Detroit / SouthEastern Michigan area. Every day at lunch I take get to take a walk, my green-time is what keeps me human. If I don't walk outside at lunch, I always walk my best friend, Wally the Rhodesian Ridgeback, when I get home from work. Before that, I did two amazing internships. One at an outdoor center in Blanefield, Scotland. This was an Adventure Ed centre involved with Scouting. I led activities like climbing on a 50 ft tower, abseiling, para drop, team building exercises... In my spare time I enjoyed the hill walking the Many Many nearby (and faraway) hills and participating in the local pub quizzes. Another at a Nature Preserve in Rochester, Michigan. I designed and taught lessons, field trips, scout outings and other fun classes for primarily ages 2 - 9, but also taught ages 9 - 90. Field trips and specialty classes, like scouts, were (and are) my specialty. Before that, I rocked out a degree. I went to Central Michigan University for a degree in Recreation, Parks, & Leisure Services Administration with a concentration in Outdoor and Environmental Recreation (when I started it was O&E Education). I actually never took the Interpretation class (doh!), but I do know how to make a proper lesson plan. I studied mostly Adventure Ed, but also did outdoor and environmental ed classes.

Wonderful! I got a quick snapshot of a GBH yesterday, but nothing like this!

I love this!! Great contrast with the background (and the ‘thirds’ composition is very appealing).

  12. Shirlena – I'm a writer but more so a poet. I like the idea of writing in condensed format and turning it into art, as a matter of fact I'm tingling just speaking on the subject. I'm a rebellious poet. I don't write within the confines of rules or style unless it's free otherwise, it is outside of the lines for me, conforming to the jazz in my mind. I;m also well versed in writing for the web, content and article writing. I'm just a writing somebody.
    Shirlena says:

    ooh dreamy…haunting.

  14. eightdecades – Artist, Designer, Maker of Things. I have experiences living across eight decades of history. Illustrating and writing stories from this journey is what this blog is about. Like all artists, I have my own opinions of what is worthy of using the hours of my life on. and whether someone likes it or appreciates it is not within my control. This is a truth in art . . . make good art and someone will like it. Experiencing the internet with all its access to great art and artists is a delight. Living in these exciting times, it seems useful to both write and comment on my own experiences. Artisting (my grandkids' word) is a noble vocation, and using accumulated skills to retell accumulated experiences will hopefully culminate in a work of its own.

Is that us we see within this image, who does not wish to be this creature at this moment. Perhaps not for ever, but for now I do.

  15. citygirlhitsthecountry – Wales, UK – I live in a small town in Mid Wales with my partner. We have a cat and hens/chickens and nearly an acre of land, and are happily child-free. Both of us grew up in and around London but have no desire to return (unless with a fortune to spend and even then I’m not sure). We arrived here soon after 2000 with our small business via various cities, large British and Foreign, and a fair amount of traveling (separately) in what used to be called the second and third worlds. The business was great but took up far too much of our time and caused more arguments than was healthy so we sold it and have not regretted a moment since. This blog has been bubbling around in my brain for a while, ever since my sister who is far more media savvy than me started one, finally I have got round to it, like the rest of life procrastination is far too easy for me, let’s hope you find informative and enjoyable. I hope to include information about: The way I garden, mainly to grow stuff to eat and encourage all wildlife with very little monetary input, we don’t use chemicals (except very occasionally). The way I cook, using relatively cheap but good ingredients.
    citygirlhitsthecountry says:

We have some resident herons nearby, I must take a camera with me, on the way home from work they are always in the same field, great to reflect on our insignificance in the greater scheme of things.

  16. This shot is just fantastic! Amazing atmosphere. Love the words too 🙂

  17. dweezer19 – Hi, Cheryl here. I can hardly believe how quickly the years have added up since I first began blogging, with life events that saw me migrate from the US to Paradise and back-twice! I would not give anything for the rich experiences we had in Costa Rica and I miss it every day. We will visit every chance we get; however, life is rarely a straight and wide path and for this portion of it we are back living in the states. I am fortunate to be living in a place rich with wildlife, beauty and wonderful inspiration. If you hang around I promise I will keep sharing with you and hope you find something to enjoy in what my camera and I manage to capture. My deepest desire is to find and show the common vein that connects us all. We live as one, breathe as one, were created as one. If we could just combine all our brilliant thoughts into one fine idea, what a wonderful world we would have. Love and Light. My tropicalaffair site is full and so I have moved. You can still read about our adventures here or hop over to my new place at https://dreamingreality646941880.wordpress.com/2018/01/12/first-blog-post/ I hope to see you there!

  18. milkhousestudio – After several years living in a couple of big cities, I'm finally planting my two feet on rural Wisconsin ground with a farmer, his dog, several cattle and a milkhouse I can call my own. That milkhouse is my inspiration, a place where I can cut loose, get messy, throw away my graphic design background and explore printmaking, drawing and painting on absolutely my own terms.
    milkhousestudio says:

    This looks like a painting…lovely!
